Eds200: lecture 11: infancy: cephalocaudal: growth starts at the top with physical growth and feature differentiation and gradually work from the top to bottom, proximodistal: growth starts at center of the body and moves towards the extremities. Infants will dramatically lose weight after they are born, as they are taking out the fluid (via peeing), but then after they gain it. The brain: the experience expectant, how the environment affect our brain, affects how they are experienced. I. e. kids are universal listeners, when they experience certain sounds at 6 months. By age 2 they become more mobile, have natural exercise, toddle back and forth. Schemas is out basic structure for organizing information, is out web of knowledge. Assimilation: molding new info to fit with our existing schemas. Is easier to do, is like a filing system. I. e. first animal you see is a dog, it has 4 legs.
