Depression an affect disorder characterized by disturbances in cognitive & behavioral functioning. 20-25% of adolescents report mild feelings of depression and 4% are severely depressed: mild depression = not clinically diagnosed, does not have intervention. Associated with poor school achievement, substance abuse, juvenile delinquency, anxiety, eating disorders and suicide. Come characteristics: unable to have fun, extreme weight changes, some withdrawal.
