Document Summary

Black/brown = organic matter, grey/white = leaching, red = iron. Soil texture texture is determined by particle sizes that make up the soil the proportion of sand, silt, clay sand has big particles, clay and silt have little (so they retain more water) When particles are large, it influences pore size if pores are large, things move through easily (water) leaching but can also be good since contaminants can be carried out easily. Loam = an even mix of sand, silt + clay it"s the best for plant growth. Soil structure how well these particles are held together these particles form aggregates (like spaces between each particle) and this affects pore size. Waterlogged soil will kill plants since there"s no oxygen around the roots. Waterlogging = saturation of soil with water crops need air (o2) in the soil. Aluminum ions are toxic to soil (it"ll kill the plant) and at normal ph, it can"t get in soil.
