Document Summary

Systems that combine elements of land and water: where land and water interface. May be covered partially or completely by shallow pools of water the standing water that does(cid:374)(cid:859)t (cid:373)o(cid:448)e. Pore spaces are saturated: anaerobic because water has a lot less dissolved oxygen than air does. When we think of oxygen as pa(cid:396)t of (cid:449)ate(cid:396) it(cid:859)s (cid:374)ot (cid:272)he(cid:373)i(cid:272)all(cid:455) (cid:271)o(cid:374)ded (cid:449)ith (cid:449)ate(cid:396) but they extract from dissolved oxygen fish breathes in dissolved o2. There is a constant amount of oxygen in the air: lots of o(cid:396)ga(cid:374)i(cid:272) (cid:373)atte(cid:396) (cid:894)does(cid:374)(cid:859)t de(cid:272)o(cid:373)pose(cid:895) It looks dark, thick and nutrient rich black and mucky nutrient material which does(cid:374)(cid:859)t decompose because it is anaerobic. Bacteria that use oxygen have a faster metabolic process than bacteria that do(cid:374)(cid:859)t has to do with the redox potential of the soil.
