Document Summary

Air pollution and ozone depletion part 2. Acid deposition is a transboundary problem: acid rain huge problem in canada in 1980s and 1990s. Still a contemporary issue: deposition broad term to explain any kind of fallout onto the land from atmosphere, acidic deposition = acid or acid-forming pollutants moving from atmosphere to surface. Deposition includes both wet and dry fallout. Wet acid can fall as rain or snow and even fog. Dry acid is transported via dust particles, etc. Acid rain = wet deposition of acid: primary pollutants originate mainly from burning of fossil fuels. So2 interacts with h2o and becomes h2so4 (sulphuric acid) Reacts with water in the atmosphere to form sulphuric and nitric acids. Co2 in the atmosphere co2 and h20 form carbonic acid. Natural rain is a little bit acidic not pure water. Natural rain not having pollutants will start to form limestone.
