Document Summary

We are seeing loss of specific habitats, resource extraction, overfishing, pollution, acidification, etc. Several marine habitats are in trouble, including: mangroves, salt marshes, estuaries and coral reefs. Coral reefs are biodiverse; they form in shallow subtropical and tropical waters and they"re economically important for tourism and ecosystem services, etc. Corals are colonial organisms that are related to sea anemones and jellyfish (coral reefs are animals) Coral reefs are in decline around the world. Climate change is currently one of the many factors relative to coral reefs. We are trying to reforest coral reefs by growing up the pollack (seabeds of corals) Bleaching of coral reefs is when organisms can no longer live with the coral reefs. Blast fishing occurs when explosives are used to kill or stun fish for collection. Mangrove forests contain salt-tolerant trees with aerial roots; they filter pollutants, protect from storm surges and it"s extremely biodiverse.
