Document Summary
Hypotheses: a hypothesis that incorrectly identifies a causal factor, a hypothesis that is untestable, a hypothesis that only partially explains a phenomenon, a hypothesis that is not in line with current thinking in the field. Provisional statement that proposes an explanation for a particular observation. Helps us understand patterns and understand our effect on the world. Experimental results are analyzed to see whether they support the alternate or the null. H0: cigarette smoking has no effect on the probability of developing certain types of lung cancer. Predictions: what you expect to happen if the hypothesis is true. Unbiased, achievable, some kind of comparison and ethical. Dying because of god"s plan= unfalsifiable= can"t imagine what it"d look like if it wasn"t the null. Untestable hypothesis= no way to test it. Out-there hypothesis= more scrutiny, have lots of evidence.
