Document Summary

Vibration produces by the rapid release of energy. Move up and down motion but the wave is moving left to right. L waves cannot go through a liquid. A string is attached where before a earthquake there is nothing but when a. P waves are the fastest waves out of all the waves. On the left side of the diagram that is a p waves arrival and the next wiggle trace is the s wave arrival and then the surface waves arrive and then the aftershock occurs. P is like a sports car (fastest), s wave is like a typical car and surface wave is like a 1990 car. Surface waves arrive later and they"re even bigger. Station 1 receives the p and s waves first than station 2. We can figure out where the earthquake occurred from the distances travelled from each station.
