Document Summary
Composed of multiple mineral grains: either all the same mineral or many different types. If you go to the beach and hold a fistful of sand, it will fall through your fingers, meaning it is not a rock. Igneous: formed from cooling of molten (melted) rock. Sedimentary: formed at the surface of the earth by deposition and cementation of particles of rock transported by wind, water, or ice, or formed by accumulation of (bio)chemically produced debris. Metamorphic: formed when sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic rocks are heated and/or squeezed. Dose not have an age until it fully cools from the magma. Granite is an example of an igneous rock: has a lot of crystals inside, as can be seen on granite countertops . Formed by the cementation of rock particles transported through water, wind, and ice: example: the waves of the ocean will continuously clash with the rock on the ground, creating a wavy pattern.
