ERS120H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Geographical Pole, The Mantle, Protostar
Document Summary
The universe is described as all of space and all the matter and energy within it. The universe can be described through matter and energy. Matter the substance of the universe and energy is the ability to do work. Geocentric model was used to describe the configuration of the stars and planets in the universe. In this model, earth was in the middle and the moon and planets revolved around it. Heliocentric model was in which the sun lay in the center of the universe and the other planets revolved around it. Eventually people came to realize that the earth and planets revolved around the sun and could not be at the center of the universe. A planet is defined as an object that orbits a star, is roughly spherical, and has cleared its neighborhood of other objects . Waves are disturbances that transmit energy from one point to another in the form of periodic motions.
