What is happening globally from 1914 to 1960: the great depression, world war 1, world war 2, cold war, restricts the movement to and out of artists. Leaves out immigration, slave history: art historians have leaned on the group of seven. Historians are looking for something to de ne the canadian art. 1960"s the government and canadian institution were looking to height canadian identity. There are many art historical reasons which has been challenged as well in the readings for last week: artists who are affrighted with the group of seven but were not the members of the group. Tom thomson died before their rst group show. Artists used indigenous art in his own work without giving sensitivity from the culture that generated it. Emily carr was supported and sensitive towards their work: had a exhibition and delivered a lecture. Calling them primitive, they are going to be gone soon, they are vanishing race: participated in a exhibition.
