Originates: ribs and inserts at coracoid process of scapula, r3-5 at costal cartilages. Insertion: medial & superior surfaces of scapula at coracoid process. Blood supply: branches of branchial artery. Innervation: medial pectoral nerves (cervical & spinal nerve branches) function, depresses shoulder, draws ribs up and out during deep inhalation. Distinguish trauma v pathology v pseudo-trauma: surface pattern e. g. seatbelt sign the long bruise as seen is known as a seatbelt sign, medical history, social history.
