North-west mounted police (nwmp) was the forerunner of canada"s iconic royal canadian. Nwmp pioneered the enforcement of federal law. Municipalities are responsible for the majority of policing services. 176 stand alone police services in 2015 serving 64% of the population in canada. One of north america"s largest deployed services.
