Document Summary

Inside genetic material are chromosomes, each gene is composed of dna that carries out a function. Dna is a polymer (a large molecule made by linking series of repeated units) The repeating units are nucleotides which are made of a sugar, base and phosphate. Dna is arranged in a double-helix, and has complementary base pairing. Unwinding of dna strands, each strand is then exposed to a collection of free nucleotides. Complex molecules called proteins are made by linking a combination of amino acids. A single base change is responsible for hemophilia. Pcr is a technique used to replicate dna. A technique used for separating molecules through their migration on a support medium while under the influence of an electrical potential. Short tandem repeats are locations (loci) on the chromosome that contain short sequence elements that repeat themselves within the dna molecule. Multiplexing is a technique that simultaneously detects more than one dna marker in a single analysis.
