Responsible for the receipt and distribution of all case items,

Initiate chain of custody: paper trail. Accomplished using a system known as LIMS
(Laboratory information management system). For every item an unique LIMS barcode.
The barcode can be scanned into the LIMS database for tracking purposes. Every
employee has a barcode, case files, and items.
Biology
Body fluid identification (blood, semen, saliva).
DNA profiling in cases involving crimes against persons and property, such as break and
enters, sexual assaults.
Ex: swabs, cigarette butts, envelopes.
Bodily fluid identification: clothing, swabs, weapons.
Visual ID: ALS, microscope.
Chemical tests: blood? Kaslte-Meyer test for hemoglobin. Human blood? ABAcard or
HemaTrace.
Chemistry
Trace evidence: physical evidence that results from transfer of small quantities of
materials. May be used to establish a link between objects, individuals, or locations.
Ex: gunshot residue (particulates formed when a firearm is discharged, when the trigger
of firearm is pulled, the firing pin his the primer cap which causes the primer mix to
burn. This forms plume........ The major elements are lead, barium, antimony. Size is 1-
20), fire debris analysis, explosives, paint, glass, metals, hair and fibres, textile damage
assessment.
