Document Summary
An impression left on a surface by the ridges called friction ridges- of the skin on the fingers. In other materials- fingerprint secretion (e. g. blood, dirt). The study of the uniqueness of friction ridge structures and their use for personal identification. Biology: fingers, palms and soles have friction ridge skin. Pattern of ridges (hills) and furrows (valleys) Dermal papillae develop in the fetus, remained unchanged throughout life. Epidermis is attached to dermis by double row of dermal papillae. Damage to the epidermis will heal with little or no effect on the fingerprint pattern. The patterns formed are a combination derived from both parents. There may be a similarity of pattern sequence within a family but detailed ridge characteristics are unique to the individual. Identical twins have same dna, but not the same fingerprints. Fingerprints as a useful means of identification the four premises .
