Physical evidence: any object that can establish that a crime has or has not been committed or can link a crime and its victim or its perpetrator. First office arriving at a crime scene is responsible for preserving and protecting the area as much as possible. Special notes must be taken of any vehicles or people who are leaving the scene. If medical assistance is needed, the officer should direct medical workers to approach the body in order to minimize an disturbing evidence. First officer should record the victims condition or record any statement made by the victim. As soon as officers arrive, they must isolate the area. The responding officers must keep an accurate log of who enters and exits the area including the times of arrival and departure. Once the crime scene is isolated and secured, a lead investigator starts evaluating the area.
