Document Summary

The chemical composition of the glass is the main factor determining its optical and chemical properties. Applications of glass: float glass (sheet glass, window glass) The most common type of flat glass is float glass (during manufacturing the glass floats on liquid tin) Made from the same ingredients as flat glass, then molded into bottles, jars, etc. In cases most of the time you see float glass. Annealed glass (unstrengthened glass), used for architectural windows, containers glass, etc. Tempered glass, used in vehicles side/rear windows, patio doors, etc. impact resistant. Other: laminated glass (windshields, bulletproof), wired glass (schools, hospitals) Break and enter (suspects clothing) or hit or run. Direction of impact (broken glass from the inside or the outside) Characteristics features: point of origin/point of impact, radial or concentric cracks. Glass is strong under compression, but weak in tension. The glass is stretched on the side opposite the impacting force, which is where it breaks first.
