The andes mountains forced the inca to adapt to high altitudes and harsh environments. The gold llama could symbolize the precious metals leading to their doom. Rise from 1400 bc and within 100 years, people of cuzco valley created largest empire of south america. In cuzco valley, peru, altitude caused lack of breath, radiation, etc. Inca upgraded system of routes to paved roads (over 14,000km) through any terrain. Sometimes also memorized but usually used the quipu with message encoded by string: quipu either used to convey language or to help with memory. Inca empire as result of invitation, bringing other civilizations into empire. Mitima: inca leaders would offer local leaders invitation and resettle them into empire. Cuzco: capital of the inca empire, still standing today. Used llamas and alpacas for fur and milk. Potato was most important, cultivated through terraced fields. Used fish remains and guano to fertilize their fields. Chuno: freeze-dried potato preserved for long period of time.
