Germany 1900, law code allowed women to keep their wages and not have to give to their husbands. The service sector for women boomed- they were typing, postal work and clerks. France in 1906, about 40% of clerk work was done by women. Teaching as profession gave women upward social mobility. The new woman (c. 1880s-c. 1930s: the new woman was financially independent and worked outside the home, the new woman was educated. Switzerland and france in 1860"s medical school are available to women.
