Germany was the first to produce reliable long range missiles. V2 rockets targets of london, thousands lbs of tnt, flew up into atmosphere and dropped on target. No technology to stop this rocket after it was launched other than destroying it before it reaches targets missiles had been developed. Russia/soviet union: soviet union was the first to develop defenses in relation to the ballistic missile defense system in the 1960s.
