POL214Y5 Lecture : POL214 Lecture 1
Document Summary
Collective decisions: include laws and pieces of legislation that govern what we do (i. e the speed limit). Government can be thought of as structures and people that enforce and do decision-making (legislatures, pieces of paper, buildings). Politics can be thought of as processes (i. e campaigning, protests, debates). Constitution=government; process that lead to the creation of it=politics. There"s lots of ways to look at and analyze politics. There isn"t a right way to look at politics. Aboriginals, white people, and women all have more or less power in government. The number of seats in the house of commons doesn"t always allocate the number of votes that party received. You can win a lot of votes, but win less seats, same goes vice versa. Lots of politics goes into who gets what. Less young people (18-24) voting than all eligible voters in canada.
