A person is a rational, conscious being: can reflect on itself, self awareness, memory of 10 years ago. Same person if there is the same consciousness. I would then be responsible for what happened over the past 10 years. Importance of experiential memory for responsibility and personal identity. Sameness of substance does not matter: sameness of matter sameness of soul! Possibility of: (i) one consciousness, several souls over time: difficulty establishing identity of soul (13) (ii) one soul, several consciousnesses over time; example of someone who thought he had socrates" soul (cid:523)14(cid:524) Sameness of soul and person vs several human beings.
