Reason cannot distinguish between right and wrong; virtue and vice; good and evil. Kant: reason is the source of all moral cognition. The motive of duty cannot be the primary motive of victuous actions. Kant: the motive of duty is the only virtuous motive. The good will is the only thing that is good without qualification. A smart vilian could use her intelligence but for bad ends. Moderation in emotions, self control, and calm deliberation. Coolness of the vilian: more dangerous and worse person. Good will is not good because of what it accomplishes .
