Document Summary

Psy100: introduction to psychology: lecture 18: social psychology continued . The justification of effort continued : cognitive dissonance reduction- the group that got said that the boring task was more fun, says, that task actually was interesting - no cognitive dissonance. It"s cognitive dissonance that changes attitude so that people don"t feel so bad about themselves: we always tell ourselves something that isn"t true so that we don"t have to deal with this state- cognitive dissonance. We put our best foot forward: self-justification (cognitive dissonance)- we don"t want to be hypocritical, but what"s most important is consistency in self. Reduce feeling of dissonance by making actions seem consistent to me: self-perception- i watch myself to see who i am. Observe behavior in different situations and see how you act. One of best ways to see how you would act is to actually immerse yourself if a situation that you"ve never been in before.
