Document Summary

Chapter 2 - research methods. Sunday, september 20, 2015. Characteristics of good psychological research. Theoretical frame work - perspective/belief ie. theory of revolution. Frame work = anxiety affects performance. A way of explaining data we"ve discovered. The theory will have questions that flow from it (hypothesis). Fruitful = many many hypotheses. Most theories grow, get bigger, and then fail ie. theory of gravity. No theory is over done, always continuing to test them. Research is new, conflicting data, replication, different studies. Standardized procedure - idea that we want to make sure how we run participants. Same exact treatment for everyone, except the independent variable (thing we do to one group but not the other). Anxiety and performance on test, one anxious group and one isn"t, then compare the averages. Experimental condition (anxiety) and control condition (nothing done to them). Generalizability - most samples aren"t random, their bias. Procedure is the best when it"s realistic (real world).
