Dreams caused by repressed unconscious desires (ego does not like to feel anxious, therefore, we develop strategies (ego defensive mechanisms) to avoid it repression (intentional forgetting and push it down into unconsciousness) Dreams are caused by pressure build up in unconsciousness. Dreams disguise the true meaning (latent content) in a bizarre symbolic message (manifest content) You need to understand the manifest content to understand the latent meaning. Carl jung liked the idea of id, super ego and ego. Freud was too negative & too much about sex. Believed dreams were a doorway to personal growth. Believed in concepts of archetypes (universal, archaic patterns and images that derive from the collective unconscious and are the psychic counterpart of instinct) Believed a collective unconscious (second psychic system of a collective, universal and impersonal nature which is identical in all individuals)
