Document Summary
Complication #1: spinal bi da- folic acid de ciency causes the neural tube to not form completely, can be cured by surgery, shunt is surgically implanted to drain excess cerebrospinal uid, avoidance- intake of folic acid vitamins during pregnancy. Complication #2: in rare cases the tail that we have in the womb is not entirely absorbed, due to gene malfunction. Period of the embryo (week 3-8: we have gills and tails in embryonic development. Period of the fetus (weeks 9-38: genital organs develop in the 3rd month, ager gonads begin secreting hormones, brain starts to develop, particularly cerebral cortex. Fetal sensory experiences (week 34: folds in our brain (cerebral cortex) allows for higher order cognitive function due to increased surface area for additional nerves, fetal movement begins at 4months, during activity, fetus will move for approx. 1 min: level of fetal movement is most closely associated with maternal heart rate 2 seconds prior.
