Document Summary
Cognitive psychologists realize that all the process going on in our mind happen to give rise to our behavior. He came up with the first theory of cognitive development with these core premises; Children are motivated and involved in making sense of their experience. Children are like little scientists that revise theories of how the world works based on experiences. Views the child as having a very active role on their development of understanding the world. Assimilation: once the child knows how something works, they incorporate new experiences to their already existing theory. Accommodation; the child has to modify their existing theories to account for their new and novel experiences. Eg: grasping children learn grasping by grasping one object then they can apply theory of grasping to all sorts of objects (assimilation). However, they have to revise their theory of grasping when they come across an object where they have to use both hands to grasp it. (accommodation)
