Teratogens: a teratogen is any agent/substance that causes abnormal prenatal development example: thalidomide, which was a pharmaceutical used to treat morning sickness during pregnancy. Environmental hazards in food, water, and the air are treacherous because we"re often unaware of their presence. Fetal alcohol syndrome: heavy alcohol consumption during pregnancy. Face and heart problems psychological characteristics behaviour and attention problems; cognitive deficit. May also relate to general risk factors in family environment. Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder moderate-regular alcohol use in pregnancy. No physical evidence however, behaviour and attention problems; cognitive deficit are present. Motor control (how we perceive the world) is not affected. Mostly problems are seen in behavioural, emotional and cognition issues limited connectivity among these areas.
