Document Summary

It is sufficient to orient that something unusual is going on but it is not sufficient for us to actually think that something abnormal should be stigmatized. Standing out in a way that is dysfunctional where is abnormality comes in: distinction between discomfort and dysfunction. In the absence of evidence, there is no right to prescribe (stigmatize: we have no right to stigmatize because people grow up differently in different situations. If a child around 12 years of age is having trouble in school, their problems could be different if the child is male or female. Female could be dealing with depression or anxiety: male could be dealing with adhd, there could be genetic susceptibility and culture could be a factor as well. Slide 25: we also want to see if the behaviour is rare for the culture that you are in, one persons normal could be the other persons abnormal.
