PSY240H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Dissociative Identity Disorder, Mental Chronometry, Caffeine
Document Summary
Boulder model of psychology: decided psychologists would be trained as scientist before becoming practitioner. Most psychologists have a phd, psychiatrists have md, and practitioners have a psyd (doctorate without thesis). Four recognized ways of thinking (least --> most sophisticated): tenacity - least sophisticated. Consider evidence that supports their beliefs but not that which doesn"t. Most efficient because does not required testing: authority - you think what you think because someone has told you to think this way. State tells us how to think: apriori method - before the fact. Thoughts are agreeable with reason, but no evidence: scientific method - rigorous, sophisticated, rules. Positive outcome most of the time (positive = correct). As a practicing psychologist, one must understand paradigms change. Should be able to interpret research to incorporate in practice. Should be familiar with current research as practitioner. As number of churches, mosques, synagogues increase, number of murder and mental illness increases.
