Document Summary

What we perceive is a result of the types of receptors we have to perceive. We have different types of receptors that perceive different kinds and qualities of energies in the environment. E(cid:448)e(cid:374) i(cid:374) a si(cid:374)gle s(cid:455)ste(cid:373), there"s a (cid:448)ariet(cid:455) of differe(cid:374)t t(cid:455)pes of mechanism that allow us to perceive different things. All animals have sensory organs containing receptor cells that sense some stimuli but not others. Sensory organs are very diverse but all senses use the same type of energy action potentials. The eyes are meant to detect light energy in the environment. The eyes pick up a certain range of the electromagnetic spectrum. This is a limited part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum spans gamma rays all the way to am waves, which is a span of about 1 trillion nanometers. There"s a (cid:448)er(cid:455) ti(cid:374)(cid:455) portio(cid:374) that our se(cid:374)sor(cid:455) s(cid:455)ste(cid:373) is able to perceive (what we see is exceptionally limited)
