PSY290H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Choroid Plexus, Autonomic Nervous System, Third Ventricle
Document Summary
There are about 50 different anatomical areas in the brain that have different cell distribution. They also found that these areas function differently. The central and peripheral nervous systems: cns includes spinal cord, brainstem, thalamus, cortex etc; anything enclosed by bone. Contains 2 divisions: the brain (located in skull) and the spinal cord ( in spine: pns includes cranial nerves, spinal nerves, autonomic nervous" system; basic physiological responses; also composed of two divisions. The somatic nervous system: part that interacts with the external environment; composed of afferent nerves carry towards sensory signals towards c. n. s. and efferent carry motor signals from c. n. s. to skeletal muscles; voluntary. The autonomic nervous system: regulates the body"s internal environment; afferent nerves carry signals from sensory organs and vice versa; two types of nerves. Sympathetic nerves: autonomic motor nerves that project from cns in lumbar and thoracic regions of spinal cord; fight-or-flight ; stimulate, organize, and mobilize energy resources; arousal.
