PSY290H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Dura Mater, Brain Ischemia, Pia Mater
Document Summary
Around early twenties the brain reaches its adults stage. In a rat the brain reaches adulthood at 9 days. As animals get larger in size their brain size also increases. The brain doesn"t only control cognitive functions but also physiological system. We are further away from the line of perfect than other animals because we have the largest brain in comparison to body size. Cns- spinal cord, brainstem, thalamus, cortex, etc: just in the brain and spinal cord. Pns- cranial nerves, spinal nerves, autonomic nervous system: everything else in the body. More folds allow for greater surface area (=more neurones) without big changes in the size of the skull. Humans have the largest brain relative to body sixe. As the brain grows in size the amount of frequency in thinking increases. The executive brain is the top of the brain. The size of the brain is relative to how big the uterus can handle.
