PSY290H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Temporal Lobe, Retrograde Amnesia, Vladimir Bekhterev
Document Summary
There are several kinds of learning and memory. Memory: different on learning because it relies not on acquiring the information but to retrieve the information, it needs specificity in terms of the information that we are storing. Can remember 10,000 images and the 100,000 pieces of information. Pick"s disease frontal lobe degeneration, the posterior part is normal but the anterior part of the brain is degraded. Vladimir bekhterev- realised that the structures of the medial temporal lobe was unusually soft and thought it was a very specific effect on the brain in that area. William scoville saw a profound memory loss in 2 people that were treated for diffenent reasons but in the same area(medial temporal lobe) H. m had sever seizures prior to the surgery, this is why he went underwent surgery. Removed parts of the medial temporal lobe ( the hippocampus and the amygdala) which later caused memory loss and emotional problems.
