Age is an important determinant of who are peers are but its not the only determinant. Because individuals are of the same age they often have the same status, similarities etc. Peers as those individuals who share certain aspects of their status. During childhood a friend is someone who we play with. Friends tend to be peers but not all peers are friends. Collection of two or more people who interact with each other and are interdependent. Groups tend to be similar to each other in a number of ways- high levels of similarity. Groups are also defined by clear social norms- particular ways of behaving. Sanctions that are provided when someone violates those social norms. Member s of groups tend to be aware of the roles that they play in that group. Age grading- children and adolescents in school but separating them according to their age.
