PSY310H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Emerging Adulthood And Early Adulthood, Deductive Reasoning, Grey Matter
Document Summary
Last time we talked about biological transitions: today we will contrast childhood transitions with adol. If a=b and b=c, then does a=c: for children this is very hard to grasp, they get mystified, they need to know exactly what. Individual diff based on culture, educational differences, etc: information processing view: asks the question what is it about the ways that adol think about things that makes them better problem solvers. It posits that there are certain processes that underlie our cognitive abilities, diff at diff stages: cog dev is a gradual and a continuous process (unlike piaget who said its discontinuous, stage like and disrupt) Space between axon and dendrites of two neurons. 2 imp changes in not structure but function of brain structures: the pattern of activation or activity becomes more focused, and coordinated with others parts of the brain and prefrontal cortex!!
