Document Summary

Interrelated concepts as socialization takes place largely by parents within the context of the family. For example there is a marital relationship that is a subsystem, relationship between sibling, relationship between one child and a father, etc. all these relationships are related to each other. If there is some problem in one of the subsystems, the family might not function as a unit but in pairs. Change is completely normal and happens in all families all the time. Nuclear families: mom and dad are married and they raise children together. Traditional families: same as nuclear, but additionally they adopt traditional gender roles in the family; man is breadwinner and mother is nurturing. Families can change for many reasons: such as other relatives becoming more a part of the family (grandparents), parents divorcing or remarrying, financial reasons, adopting children, death in the family, same sex marriages.
