We have acquired a hard wire ability to language. We have taught other animals to communicate using language ( sign lang) but the trait is speciic. Ability to communicate in words is unique to us to only humans. You have to be exposed to it to acquire it, however it is hardwired within us to learn it very quickly. Some theories suggest that you acquire some phonological components in utero. Nom chompsky: we have discovered areas of brain that develop to acquire language both comprehend and produce- 2 aspects of language, comprehend- wrenikes areas, produce- broca"s area. Syntax- the order in which language is presented: diferent in diferent languages, childrens pick it up quickly, the rules in which words go together. Phonology: thought to involve theories of patern recogniion, becomes automaic with exposure, exposure over a period of ime, patern recogniion.
