Slide 1 there are so many learning disabilities and there are also a lot of ways to learn. Includes such conditions as perceptual disabilities, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, and developmental aphasia. First identified in the 19th century when doctors observed patients who appeared to be intelligent and physically healthy except for their inability to read and write. Dsm-5: learning disabilities reflect poor academic performance that cannot be explained by intelligence or external factors o now we are recognizing that it"s due to some brain abnormalities that are causing this kind of brain functioning. Ld may be associated with a wide range of traits: Problems in social interactions e. g. adhd, autism usually co-occur with ld. Premature birth (low birth weight) childhood cancer diabetes there is a correlation with changes in the brain and delayed brain development or some sort of lesion occurring in the brain.
