Example of the challenge of cross cultural research: dr. greenfield & zinacantecans of mexico interviewed them using surveys validated using western samples each question is independent, not part of a convo good practice to ask several questions about the same thing to increase reliability the subjects would follow their conversational norms the interview technique just made the subjects annoyed, they were used to having someone ask them a question, respond to it and acknowledge it but this isn"t how the interview was conducted the mexicans didn"t have an understanding how the survey worked. Presence or absence of contextual factors contextual factor any factor that can cause or explain differences b/w cultures religion, ses, academic level researchers typically measure them and then statistically control for these factors i. e: comparing the cultures on life satisfaction, control for ses, if there is no difference b/w the two after the controlling (cid:224) ses is the factor that influences it.
