Predicts that self esteem depends on what others think of us and rejection should lower it. Leary: 4 condition; you are either included or excluded : excluded lowers self esteem. Group convo- did a few times over semester- then everyone says whether they liked each other and impact on self esteem. Self broadcasting- the ones with higher self esteem are more liked- not the other way aroud. Evidence agrees with sociometer theory ie it is liking self esteem not the broadcasting theory. Broken sociometer: social anxiety and personality disordered bec you are not picking up on proper evaluations or all of them. You have global self esteem but it also fluctuates.
