Thus, intimate relationships provide a context unlike that of other relationships for the fulfillment of self-regulatory motives. Looking @ self as a subject + negative aspects of the self. Most theories of self acknowledge importance of interpersonal experiences, beliefs, and affects but some believe that the self is an intrinsically interpersonal system. Self is not passive in info gathered in soc intrxn; active role in guiding activity, diecting goal oriented behaviour + interpreting experiences. Feedback from other shapes self b/c we have a need to belong close ppl valued + Self as a subject is how self regulates intimate relationships. Most ppl motivated to self enhance; other factors influence the relative salience of which motive to use partners impt for feedback; their actions influence success/failure in 4 of motivations may not always be honest feedback.
