Consists of verbal (or explicit) and nonverbal (or implicit) behaviour. It is a complicated process with many different open channels for message transmission: much of this process is automatic as we were never taught how to communicate, we are fluent in both verbal and nonverbal communication methods. These are open channels bc they can be interfered sender"s intent is not always brought all the way thru to the listener. Everyone has different styles of communication/expression: what the listener decodes might not be the same way as the sender encoded. The way in which people communicate, intentionally or unintentionally, without words: we don"t have total control over our bodies. The more difficult to control, the higher the chances we unintentionally send msgs to others: may be more important for building intimacy than verbal communication, used for bonding prior to language development, used for bonding in non-human animals.
