PSY344H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Conditioned Taste Aversion, Stopwatch, Contiguity
Document Summary
Learning- we experience something and due to that the behavior changes. Memory- something happens and due to that behavior changes. Plasticity- all the things that allow learning and memory to occur. Categorizing learning and memory on a biological basis. Habituation- called non associative because there are no stimulus involved. Dishabituation- apply a stronger stimulus and response increases. The response strength of an animal goes from higher to lower. Easy to work with, can do things you cant do with humans. Motor learning (based on movement)- rotating rod- mice don"t like falling of things nor open spaces. Put on a rotating rod and they need to run to stay on staying on it is instinctual but the training is increasing the speed and with time they get very good at it. When they fall they push down a leaver that stops the stopwatch. Certain areas in brain involved in this. Us- reinforces, motivates the animal positive (reward or negative (punishment)
