The scientific approach uses the empirical method of research (random assignment, probability, stats). Science is not science because of what you study but it is science because of how you study it. Broad application inherent conflicts like should we educate prisoners. Perhaps not but educating prisoners is the best thing we can do to reduce their chances of doing the crime again. Forensic psychology is in essence an applied science. A lot of the time it is science dna testing (takes weeks). But dna testing is not always done even if it is needed. Eyewitness memory and testimony - 85% of wrongful convictions are due to eyewitness accounts. Risk assessment important when deciding how long someone should stay in prison. The reason is because if someone does do their entire sentence, once they are out they cannot be under parole or watched any longer. Because they"ve done their time and fulfilled their debt to society.
