PSY345H5 Lecture 2: Lecture 2
Document Summary
Inclusive education sounds similar to mainstreaming and educational integration, because it also includes taking kids with disabilities and educating them with kids without disabilities. The key unique aspect of inclusive education is that it calls for specific changes in the school board. So that we are not simply accommodating kids by letting them come into school, rather we are changing the whole system so that the system is designed to be accessible to everybody. That is consistent with multicultural approach to education. All children are equally eligible and have the same rights. Seeing disability in schools eventually becomes the norm in society. People with disabilities are part of society and when you take a segment of society and separate it, we are really doing nothing. We are going back to institutionalization, if we segregate such children to special schools. Students who are disabled receive all their instruction in a regular education setting.
