Dsmiv: mood emerges from difficulties in processing emotional thoughts. A criterion for diagnosing dep dis is a minimum of 5 symptoms that persist 2 weeks or more: usually also have to be diagnosed without the influence of env"t events. Must be diagnosed not within an environment or at least a singular one. Looking for a change in functioning: depressed mood, diminished level of activity, differences in weight changes, gain or loss, lack of sleep, or over sleeping, psychomotor agitation. Subjective feeling of restlessness: retardation, thought of being slowed down or sluggish, fatigue, personal feelings: worthlessness or guilt, thoughts of death. 30-50 % of our human pop, at some point have met the clinical criteria for depression. A report on mental illness: with bipolar (char by dep and manic),only affects about 1-2, so this is one of the most prevalent mental disorder evo, rates vary across countries.
