Etc. o study the mind and the soul o the human existence and our experience What is psychology? - the scientific study of behaviour o “anything an animal or human does, feels, or thinks” - psychology is a science firmly based in empirical research - psychology has broad application - science is a science because of how we study, not what we study - conflicts in psychology: o some psychology is not scientific – not empirically testable – not scientific o clinical psychology (hospitals and patients) vs. academic psychology (dying away)  psychiatrists: prescriptions (mostly) / psychologists: research - anecdotal evidence – may just be a fluke or a placebo – have to test using empirical evidence o
